Default Alot has Changed

Recently i've thought about getting back into Guild Wars.
Note i played during the Prophecies chapter literally from when it started, and exactly when it ended.

I maxed out the level, and if i remember correctly decked myself out with the best armors, and if i remember correctly a pretty nice weapon.

Now what?
How much has the game changed since the original Prophecy days?
Which of the chapters that followed is better?
Is it worth coming back too?
Shall i go Nightfall? Factions? The North?

Any suggestions would help

if you didnt play the other games..you might give them a try, but if you played them all multiple times like me..i wouldnt...i cant stand guild wars now, so i gave all my stuff,my accounts to my little brother, when i try to play with him, i can barely stand in the game for 5 min before realizing ive done everything 100000billion times.

Also, lots of stuff have changed since the prophecies days, necros have limit in their minions, there are new professions of course, lots of nerfs and buffs, dont try to pvp unless your guild is awesome and you got r5+ or you will waste your time finding a group.Thunderhead keep is easy cake :P, there is also tittles now..that you got to grind your ass to get them..or afk for hours...or have some billion gold.

have fun.

Edit: i would get nightfall/eye of the north...imo they are the best chapters after proph.

Factions was/is the biggest waste of 30 quid ive ever spent in my entire life. Its really the most pointless chapter with eotn being right behind. Both were just something to add after something great. Nightfall is also pretty bad. Heroes just make pve so easy its unbelivable(fun at first and then you realise that you can just go into a mob tab out for two mins and come back to find said mob dead).

Overall the GW you remember is not what it is now. Stay away.

Do all the pve stuff once, then play pvp.
Overall the changes to pve aren't too bad (and will be welcome if you find some missions are too hard/take too long, cause that will be fixed.)
UaX your account, then just do pvp, it's alot more fun than the rest of the game.

so what i'm hearing is this:

theres still a bunch of people on this forum, but everyone doesn't play Guild Wars.

im guessing Guild Wars is dead now or what?

Are there still a good amount of people in Prophecy? I went back on my account a minute ago, I think i may have been hacked of my good weapons, but i still have both my low level ele and necro with highest rating armors...

Should i just play those?

GW is still alive and well, cities are full and so are all forms of PvP. Guru is just full of people QQing about the "good old days" of GW and they quit and now just come on the forums to complain. One thing that has changed quite a bit is the fact that many missions and quests are done solo now with heroes and henchmen instead of random players, so most socializing is done in cities and PvP. Titles also added something to work for (some may say it is grind, but i find working for a goal to be fun).

I would say just get Eye of the North (if you are looking for a storyline) its quite cheap now and fill out ur HoM in prep for GW 2. Most of the community has died out and thats the only thing thats left for us to hope for..

GW today has pretty much two things in mind for players: PvP and GW2. Since we know next to nothing on GW2, many of us claiming it to be vaporware, and PvP is suffering balance issues because of a lack of attention/work, it's hard to say whether playing the game as a newcomer will be a good choice.

Yeah, there's a lot to do to keep you entertained, but you won't be able to get all your possible GW2 "benefits" or play PvP competitively unless you own all of the campaigns + expansion and are willing to put a good amount of time in.

Factions has new skills, PvP titles that you use for PvE skills. And more challenge modes than nightfall. If it was the biggest "quid" whatever that is then your saying that Mario Kart Wii is just as bad as GW: Factions. Maybe you should get glasses to see what your looking at.

Factions is short but with a lot of challenges. It's fun to see your name in the top 50. Factions has 2 elites missions, prophices has 2 and Nightfall has 1. Factions has 5 challenge missions. Even when you beat it you have a lot more to do. EOTN is amazing. I never get tired of the dungeons and secrets.

Nightfall was great. Good storyline. Great addiction to the game.

You know nothing about the game. I dare you live past 5 minutes in glints challenge with heroes and henchies.
Remember the old days? because you don't. You spent 15 minutes finding one monk for your party and turns out he uses mending and healing breeze. Heroes are like trusty players. BUT because you can trust them doesn't mean they are strong.

Players = great knowledge with energy. Knows combos. Can predict enemies attacks. Access to PvE skills.

Heroes = Only use skills regardless of energy. Combo's don't work super well. Scary good at interrupts.

Heroes are good but people would rather take people for a mission any day.

Obviously, the GW you remember isn't real. Stop QQing

Guild Wars is still alive and well as evidenced recently by the 65-100+districts in Lions Arch for the wintersday festival. PvE has changed tremendously since Prophecies w/ heros+pve titles+skills. Lots of old timers still place this game regardless of the bad trolls that lurk on Guru as well as new players. PvP is very elitist at this stage in the game with the majority of players still playing haveing high rank and very little low rank or new players are getting into PvP. Currently people in GW's mainly get on to hang out with friends, enjoy Dungeon and Elite msih speed clears, or grind out titles. BTW Factions is not as bad as everyone said it was although the storyline had real issues. Factions introduced new competitve areas for pvp with players being able to see their name on leaderboards. Also, Factions is where the current meta game in pve is at with Perma Shadowform being run to tank in all areas of the game with relative ease. If i were you i would get all the campaigns as they are relatively cheap and the game si still free to play afterwards. Also i think they are selling combo packs w/2 campains for the price of one. Regardless this game is still thriving so pick up the game and enjoy

Many things have changed. I came along since the time of Factions, but of what I heard, with Factions the game slowly became more grindy. Although Anet is trying to bring it back on course, they have not yet done so.

Things that are new since Factions release, and slighly before:
-Sorrow's Furnace and the Titan Quests got added
-Titles were added
-Hall of Heroes in Tombs was destroyed and turned into a PvE Elite Mission
-PvP and PvE are now separate (even with a skill split now, where some skills get different numbers in each)
-Assassin and Ritualist were added with Factions
-Alliances and Alliance Battles were added with Factions
-Paragon and Dervish were added with Nightfall
-Hero Battles were added with Nightfall
-Tyrian Arenas were closed down with Factions (PvP moved to the Battle Isles - a core PvP map)
-Heroes were added with Nightfall (basically henchmen that level with you and you can customize the build, armor, and weapons of), currently 26 heroes out (only have 3 max in a party)
-Nightfall links the storylines of Prophecies and Factions.

and more.

Since you didn't play through Factions on, assuming you liked Prophecies, I suggest you play the other three games (play them in order if you like storylines and lore) - getting the Bonus Mission Pack is up to you.

People on this forum still play - however there are a lot of "post-gw players" that just can't leave for some reason. GW is far from dead, people just QQ saying it is because it has become boring for them since they have done everything five times over. There are people all over, but once Wintersday is over, most people will be in Nightfall and Eye of the North. Play whatever you want, if you don't think you are in the "feel" (i.e., a good player, knowing the basics, etc. etc.) start a new characters, if you think you are, then go with those.

There is quite a large active player population in GW. It is just very spread out normally with the size of the current world. Some players have become bored with the game (it is coming up on the 4th birthday), but many others (the least vocal) are out there having fun.

If you haven't ever played Factions, Nightfall or Eye of the North, then go for it. You have some great playing times ahead. The quality of the games are great and ArenaNet is still tweaking skills, fixing small bugs and adding content.

You can check out the wiki at http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page for the updates and to browse the new weapon and armor skins. The wiki is also available in-game through F10 or Help on the Menu or by typing /wiki (followed by keyword) in the chat bar.

I thought I'm the only one but there you go..

I seriously like it and don't know why people are b****ing about it
It is different to Prophecies but it doesn't mean it's poor. Apart from some great skills green items were introduced in greater scale, one of the most popular farming proff - Assa, another fantastic proff - Rt hugely underestimated
Nevermind the fun in Aspenwood, Urgoz or The Deep
And I really love Far East addons in the game - music, architecture, Dragon Festival etc

Come tomorrow night I will have had the game for 3 years and have played many many hours over the 3 years on 2 accounts. It has changed quite a bit, but to me is still enjoyable.

My recommendations as to other chapters;

Prophesies, Nightfall, Eye of the North, Factions. What I liked least about Factions, you are forced to follow the storyline. With Prophesies, you could wander around and open new outposts and mission areas. With Factions, to reach certain areas, you must do the missions to unlock the quests to enter that outpost you may stumble onto. Nightfall is similar, but you can enter most without quests or completed storyline.

I don't get the big deal about the PvE skills. I have a few, but never use them. I tend to stick with the core skills and a random elite.

Titles are what you make of them. When people say they are grind, it makes me think they feel they HAVE to do them. I just play and get the titles as I go. An occasional detour to open a little more map is no big deal. If you don't want to kill everything on the map (Vanquish), then don't do it. (It does help you find some missing pieces of the map.)

The game is what you make of it. If you enjoyed it then, you should still enjoy it today.

Not saying that the pessimists/EXTREMELY BORED VETS shouldn't post, but I suggest OP not to listen to them.

I have played this game for nearly 3 years, granted I don't have like even 1000hours playing time, but things are still fun for me. There's really lots to do for you if you've been gone away from GW that long. Don't listen to the QQ about "omg pve skills killed the game" or stuff like that, just don't use them(I barely do :/)

Factions is fun for AB and the awesome endgame boss(character wise). NIghtfall you get heroes, which is very useful compared to the inferior bars many henchmen are equipped with...

EoTN was meh, but get it b/c it's more stuff to do. Plus GW products are really cheap now.

Don't forget to visit the Xunlai Tournament House, Go to guildwars.com. click on Competitive. Make predictions about GvG and 1v1, you get a lot of tournament reward points, go to Temple of Balthazar and trade for some Zaishen keys, sell at 5k each... PROFIT!!

Good luck and have LOTS OF FUN playing!

Merry Christmas!

hmm. I SEE.

I shall progress. I just hopped on my little twink'ish elementalist and did some early missions to kill time.

Anyways... If i were to go Nightfall, which profession would you guys suggest?

I've played Warrior well through, although it was i remembered endlessly fun.
Other classes? I've never played long enough to know how they are.

So any suggestions? Dervish? or the Paragon?

A good suggestion is to use search and see if maybe someone has asked the exact same thing already and then just read what they said in that thread. Then if you have any questions, you can ask in the thread that already exists.
